Ideas on capped wires on intermatic

noob alert.

Picture shows three wires that come from conduit into my timer.

Old pump was 115v and new is 230v. I made a (possibly bad) assumption that the capped wires (#2 and 3) were for a 30amp 240v breaker but.... the power to those wires was shut off with the same 20a 120v breaker that is feeding line #1. Checked with noncontact voltage tester. Shutting off the dual pole breakers did nothing.

Also when checking with multimeter to either #2 or 3 and the neutral on timer, only reads 22 volts...

I have an electrician coming Tuesday who seems doubtful that the same breaker feeds all three wires.

Mainly just throwing out here if anyone has any ideas. I'm wondering if these wires are just disconnected at the panel. edit: Just checked at the panel and it's wired up

it was probably for another pump or some other "system" that was removed..

22 volts would indicate it is fed by a transformer somewhere. Do you know what breaker turns those 2 wires off?

Thanks for the feedback. The same breaker that powered the old 115v pump left those two wires without power. Again, as far as could tell with my very little experience.

I'll have an electrician out Tuesday and I'll update with what he finds out.

Turned out to be a pretty simple job because they were in fact extra wires that were run by someone planning ahead. The 30A breaker that was powering a single outdoor outlet just had to be switched to 20A and hooked up to the lines going out to the old timer. Also had to install a 240v timer and everything was hooked up within a couple hours.
