IC and IPH not communicating

UPDATE! After my husbands amazing soldering work, our fears were confirmed when we had the same results (no communication with the IC). Oddly enough, at the same time the tiny motor on the mechanical timer decided to get funky and decide not to work (really? c'mon now). So, I replaced that motor today (seems to be running - we shall see if it actually turns the clock gears and responds to the on/off tabs). Meanwhile we got lucky (at least I think so) on a replacement Intelliph - I was just going to go for the circuit board (because it's cheaper), but, I found a whole controller (box, cord and all) brand new for $175! So, that arrived today and is currently in the "soldering" queue to get the bypass surgery! Once that's complete, I'll re-install. :)

"Bypass surgery." :D Ha, ha. We should have been calling it that all along!

Sounds like you're on track. Good job.
Thank you! Timer is working great and I'm happy to report that the surgery was a success and everything is back up and running... although the pool does want a backwash ugh pool maintenance is never done. :) I appreciate all the help, I wouldn't have been able to fix this without this forum. I certainly hope Pentair makes some modifications to their equipment to help future people, but, I won't hold my breath. ;)

They've known about the over-current problem for many years. All they've done to address it is to warn people not to use an IntelliChlor 60 with an IntellipH. They're still in denial about the problem happening with the IC40. Their bean-counters probably figured out that replacing them under warranty is cheaper than redesigning anything to fix the problem. And/or they have a large enough stock of them to sell before they do anything, or discontinue the IntellipH altogether.

On the flip side, at least we know what to do about it.
