IAquaLink variable speed schedule

I’ve searched and searched but cannot find an answer. I’ve learned so much in my few months of pool ownership about chemicals from this website and I just am learning that my pump has been going full rpms for 12 hrs every day and I have a vsp.
I run it 12 hrs overnight with fountains out of the returns because I’m in Texas with no shade and it helps cool it to 85 at night when it was 92+ before.

My problem is when I just have vsp scheduled the filter pump doesn’t appear to be on and no temperature is read in the IAquaLink opening screen even though in web info the pump is running at the rpms I have set.

After a lot of research (and poolgates previous post) I scheduled the filter pump for 12 hrs and also the lower variable speed I want for that 12 hrs. Now this gives me a green in filter pump and temp reading. Am I doing it right?

Also, is there any way to make my default filter pump button/setting not run max rpm?


In the winter I may make different settings with different speeds at different times which I will probably have to ask help for.

Would you done thus far is mostly correct.
Can you go to the VSP speed set up and show that screen? Need to see what speed you have set for Filter Pump.
Also, why do you change that speed 1 minute later to 2500 and leave it run for 11 hrs and 58 minutes?
Go to Menu, then System Setup, then VSP Setup, then Speed Setup, Next,
You should see a screen like this

I set it for a minute apart because on one random you tube video it said don’t stop and start schedules at the same time…

I think I figured it out. The vsp 1 speed setting is your filter pump default speed. I set that to lower speed than max like the builder had it initially. Now it seems to work with only filter scheduled. See screen shots. Thanks for the help!

Now I need to go in there and re label/re do the vsp names and speeds like you all have them.


Also my pump ran overnight using a ton less energy and the water temp is 84! Even though it was one of the hottest days of the year yesterday. Win.

Filter pump uses Speed1 - Pool. That should be set to the lowest speed you want to run the pool. All other speeds should be higher then Speed1.

Maybe I’m dense, but initially there was no label for filter pump in vsp settings. Speed 1 was labeled pool (so I changed it back to that). If I only run a schedule with vsp1 spd adjust it will run the main pump but I don’t get temperature reading and the filter pump tab is not switched on in the opening aqua link screen. But if I run a schedule with filter pump as the choice is will give pool temperature reading, filter pump tab will be on and also the rpm’s will reflect speed 1 in vsp settings.

From the schedule settings the options are filter pump and vsp1 spd adjust (along with others) see picture.

But, there is no place in the program that lets you specifically adjust filter pump. Does filter pump coorelate to whatever is labeled in vsp speed 1??
I noticed that when I change the speed 1 on vsp speed setup that’s what the filter pump defaults to.

Filter pump uses Speed1 - Pool. That should be set to the lowest speed you want to run the pool. All other speeds should be higher then Speed1.

The VSP Speed Setup table has eight entries and entries 1 through 6 are automatically associated with a function:

• When the filter/pump function runs it automatically uses Speed 1 - Pool
• If the Spa mode is enabled it uses Speed 2 - Spa
• Likewise when the Cleaner function is active it uses Speed 3 - Cleaner
• and so on with the spillover, pool heat, and spa heat functions.
• If you have a Solar system you can have Speed 7 named Solar Heat and the system automatically changes the pump speed when the Solar Heat is on.

1800 and 2000 will never run with your Speed1 set to 2500.

When multiple speeds are active the higher speed wins.

So with Speed1 set to 2500 that is the minimum speed for your filter pump.

I will go in and adjust my vsp settings speed 1 to the lowest.

Do not run a schedule with "vsp1 spd adjust" Only use the labels defined in your list of 8 speeds. Filter Pump will always run POOL speed so that has to be the lowest speed. Set that to 1800rpm and set the current "1800" label to 2500 and set that speed at 2500, then the other speeds will work fine when they are scheduled.

The pool water temperature sensor should work anytime the filter pump is running at any speed.

Show us pics of your equipment pad and where the water temperture sensor is placed in your plumbing.

Here are my new labels/settings for vsp and new schedule. My goal is to run the filter pump 12 hours at night. Since the filter pump ( speed 1) is the lowest speed and I want to run it higher, I add a vsp schedule within the time frame of the filter pump schedule. Sound/look right?

your speed settings look fine. I am curious why you want set your schedule to run your VS pump at a constant 2300rpm. The goal of a VS pump is to utilize the lower speeds to reduce energy costs and still have circulation. IMO I would set the 2300 rpm for 6 hrs - from 8pm to 2am if you wanted a higher speed for more efficient skimming. Also, you could increase the rpm for POOL speed to 1800rpm if you wanted somewhat higher speed for the remaining 6 hrs.

I used that rpm out of ignorance because it was less that open throttle as before and I didn’t want to go too low and have a green pool later.

Your run time for the pump assists with circulation, filtering and skimming.

Gotcha. I am diligent with my Taylor kit and liquid chlorine addition. Hopefully less acid now that the fountains are not full blast raising the ph.
