iAquaLink Goes Offline When Scheduling

About 2 or so weeks ago I had an iAquaLink controller installed on my pool equipment. We moved a month ago from a house with a 15,000gal pool and all Jandy equipment with an IAquaLink 2.0 controller, into a downsized home with a 8,000gal pool and Pentair equipment and no automation.

We had had that pool for nearly 8 years and I was happy with the pool company and that entire system so I had that company (ranked best in town) come out to advise me on getting things at the new pool more like my old pool. They installed the iAquaLink 3.0.

As luck would have it, that’s the same weekend that iAquaLink had massive server issues and my system would not stay online. So now things are better with the iAquaLink app EXCEPT… I can’t do any scheduling. When I go to the Web interface and then the “Schedule” button followed by the “Add” button to compose a schedule for my equipment nothing happens on the screen and the system goes offline.

My pool company came out and manually set up a schedule for the Polaris and that worked fine. But I didn’t like the times they set and wanted to change it. But when I brought up the pool’s schedule there were 6 separate Polaris listings all for the same time setting and each one showing set up for All days???

So I figured it was a mistake and deleted the 6th listing figuring that I’d remove the 5 duplicates and then change the times for the remaining listing. But deleting that 6th one deleted them all and now I’m back to no schedule showing for my pool.

You can guess where I’m going next… I’m trying to create a schedule item for my Polaris but doing so just knocks my system Offline.

I called Flurida/Zodiac/iAqualink and after waiting on hold for 40 mins was told my wait time was only another 33 minutes. So I hung up.

I contacted the pool company and they offered to manually add the Cleaner schedule again, but when I said I wanted the system fixed so I could set my own schedules they replied that it was continuing server issues with iAquaLink.

I’m pretty frustrated with the situation. Is Flurida really still having issues after 2-weeks? Or is my system not installed and set up right?

PS. Did I mention that the company now tells me that my Pentair Superflo VST pump can’t be controlled by the iAquaLink controller like they thought it could after all!

Probably so. The company said the AquaLink could do all I needed and was less expensive. They were sure that with the right cable the SuperFlo VST could work with the new system.
The Aqualink works with IntelliFlo pumps.

Pool companies don't seem to know that not all Pentair VS pumps have the same controls. Unlike Jandy and Hayward.

The Superflo VST has a different drive and firmware than the Intelliflo.

Pentair ensures its automation handles the different pump protocols.

This is what I’ve learned, as well. Pretty frustrating. The pool tech is very experienced and knowledgeable. He said if he got an older connection cable he could make it work. So he got one and no go. So he called Pentair and they said it’s never going to work.

He then programmed the Superflo pump for me. I haven’t bothered to learn how to program the pump because I thought I would be doing so with the iAquaLink system. I will learn it now of course.

His solution was to wait for the Pentair pump to go out and then buy a new pump that will work with the system.

Or wait for the Aqualink to go out and buy an IntelliCenter.

That is what I did am happy I did.

I spoke to Flurida Support today. They said that the Web interface was working normally and had been for the past 2-weeks.

They logged in to my system remotely and tried the Schedule function and it brought my system offline just as I’ve experienced for the past two weeks

They said it was a memory issue and the memory just needed to be reset. So, they copied all the current settings, cleared the memory and relabeled all the Aux listings back to what had been set up and this fixed the problem completely. They tested it remotely and they could make a schedule normally. I’ve tried it too and I now I can change the schedule just like on my previous system.

They also told me how I could clear the memory and handle this issue if it should arise again. I haven’t tried it but the option is in the Web Interface and should be straightforward.

Our new house as a Pentair SuperFlo VST pump (2022 build date) and my Pool Tech just installed a new iAquaLink 3.0 controller that he was sure he could get to work with the aqualink. He said he just needed to get an older version of the RS485 cable to make it work.

But he was wrong. He tried it and got nothing. Then he called Pentair and they told him it was the wrong pump and needed to be an Inteleflo Pump.

This is a bummer and I wouldn't have gone with the Jandy automation if I had known this upfront.

So, before I just accept this outcome... does anyone know of a method without replacing the existing pump of making the Pentair pump work with the iAquaLink?

Of course, they installed the 4-relay version of AL and my system is using all four right now. So, I guess I'll wait until one or the other unit fails.
That is what I thought.

Not to rub it in but the difference between the IntelliCenter and the Aqualink includes:
  • Relays can be added in IntelliCenter; number of relays are fixed in Aqualink
  • IntelliCenter has a display on the outside panel allowing full control and programming; Aqualink is dependent on iAqualink app
  • IntelliCenter can get firmware updates over the air or using USB; Aqualink firmware updates require board replacements
  • IntelliCenter app can access the panel using WiFi without needing the Internet or cloud server connection; Aqualink app control is dependent on having a remote connection to the Internet and Jandys servers
