iAqualink 2.0 Connection Problem

My home recently survived a hurricane, but many systems including my iAqualink 2,0 connection to my Android phone went "offline". I followed the instructions for resetting the connection by toggling the wired/wi-fi switch back and forth and then choosing the iAqualink hotspot internet on my devices network selection screen. The iAqualink connected, but showed "connected with no internet" and did not redirect me to the Zodiac router selection screen. After trying this several times and asking my pool guy for help, I finally called Fluidra (who handles iAqualink support) at 800 822-7933. I talked with a very friendly support rep who informed me there was an un-documented extra step for Android phones. Basically, after connecting to the iAqualinks local network, you have to then open your phone's browser and type in the address bar either "a.com", or if that doesn't work key in "192.168.4.1". A.com didn't work for me, but after typing in the 192.168.4.1, the Zodiac router selection screen opened and allowed me to select my home internet network. Bingo, I had reset my connection! P.S. The connection message "connected with no internet" is a valid connection.

Welcome to TFP.

I am trying to understand what is specific to your local network and what would apply to anyone.

Is 192.168.4.XXX the IP address range of your network? Would it apply if someone else was using 192.168.1.XXX?

@PoolGate I think you use Android. Do you follow what is going on with this hack?

192.168.4.1 seems to be a typical IP address for initial configuration pages of IOT devices (i.e. ESP8266/ESP32/etc. based devices). OP said he was connected to the iAqualink in hotspot mode, which aligns with this assumption. The IP of their network is irrelevant in this state, so the answer is yes, it would be 192.168.4.1 regardless.

So for someone else who finds this solution what IP address should they try?

Or was the OPs problem caused by the iAqualink in hotspot mode and this is a unique solution for that network configuration?

It seems like one would connect to 192.168.4.1 if they were connected in hotspot mode. It should have nothing to do with the network, since at that time they would be connected to the iAqualink's network. If that makes sense.

I did not know iAqualink had a Hotspot Mode for setup.

Now I understand the OP was trying to connect to iAqualink during setup using Hotspot Mode with an Android phone. The setup manual actually describes this fix to kickstart the internal Aqualink server connected through the Hotspot to respond by entering any web page in step 5. That IP address accomplishes the same thing.

192.168 is private address space not routable on the Internet. It's for inside your house. It's part of rfc 1918.

That is correct and Hotspot mode for iAqualink setup creates a private network to communicate with the iAqualink software in the antenna or panel.
