I think a Pentair VSF pump might be overkill. Are there some good alternatives?

I've got water solar panels so I'll be looking for a compatible solar controller, too. My pool is pretty basic: Salt system, Solar water panels. Around 14,000 gallons. No features but a manual water fall that I don't need to be automated. That's it.
I've been lusting over the Pentair VSF, but the more I research, the more it seems like a bit much.
Any thoughts on this?
BTW, my power bill is around .13 Kwh.
Thanks in advance.

Chuck,

No such thing as too big of a VS pump.. I have three simple pools and they all have 3 HP IntelliFlo pumps... If any of them died today, I would have a new one on my porch tomorrow..

All you need is the VS pump. P/N 011018 or the replacement 011028. I can't see any advantage in having the VF or the VSF

I run my pool, most of the time at about 1200 RPM, and 24/7, as I have a SWCG.. This costs me less than $20 bucks a month.

My only warning is to make sure you NEVER buy the SVRS option... The Safety Vacuum Release System is a nightmare...

Thanks,

Jim R.

I’m also using a 3hp Pentair Intelliflo, the older basic 011018 model. It’s a great pump. All the Intelliflo are. Just add surge protectors to your power panels to protect them.

For that solar, I would suggest the Pentair SolarTouch kit. It comes with a three-way solar valve, valve actuator, and temperature sensors for both water and solar panel. It will also communicate with and control an Intelliflo pump. Oh, and it cost less than $300!
