I ran a DE filter for 6+ hours without DE powder

I know, I know it’s really bad. I was helping someone open up their pool this summer and setting up a new DA filter and pump. I thought it was fine to not have DE filter but I was very wrong from what I’ve seen from other posts. We were reusing the old water from last year and it was dirty. I used skimmer socks that caught a lot of the debris, but I’ve been hearing that some of the debris that gets sucked in to the filter without DE powder will stay in the fibers of the filter and will be impossible to clean out. I did it anyways and completely cleaned it with a hose. It looks like it’s basically brand new. Is it true that no matter how much I clean it, the debris will just stay in the fibers?

Hi, welcome to TFP! You may have caught it soon enough to prevent damage. Time will tell if the grids are ruined or not. Once the pool is clear they should be able to run the filter several weeks without needing to backwash and recharge the grids.

Thanks! When I get the chance to get more DE I will prime everything and add DE again. I just really hope it’s okay lol.
