I have my results from my K-2006 kit

Thanks for the support ladies and gents! This is my first time trying bleach or even the BBB, so your encouragement helps. My wife said, "why don't you go buy shock and throw it in?" I have read many post on this website and am confident things will turn my direction in the near future. Should I still be checking every hour and topping off the bleach to shock level?

Your are doing fine.

Bleach is exactly the same chemical as "shock", just without the extra additives that can cause problems sometimes.

Check and add more every hour is ideal. If you go a little longer between now and then that is alright.

Yes. R-0870 comes in various different size containers. They add a letter to the end to indicate which size it is. J is a very large bottle (relative to the usual size, not in absolute terms), much larger than one person could ever come close to using before it went bad.

Well, it is 8:45 and I have been at this since 7:00 AM The water looks very nice clear. My Final FC reading for the night was FC 11.5, so I topped it off with bleach and I will pick up in the morning where I left off. I imagine that the FC will drop off, but only time will tell. Thanks again to everyone that has given support throughout this process.

Sunday morning 7:30AM test results... FC 7 Added more bleach (5 gallons) The water is not quite as clear in the deep end. Probably from organics breaking down. I also had my pump off for a bit last night. I'm going to keep it running until I get things straightened out.

Good News 9:00AM FC 14.5 CC 0

When can we safely swim in the pool?
Generally we say it is safe to swim if FC is between min and shock level based on CYA, water is clear and CC is .5 or less.

I think I read that you raised your CYA to 30, which would make the shock level about 12. So, once it drops just a little, you can hop in.

Thanks duraleigh!

I have not added anything, except for the conditioner to raise the cya. (I added about 3.5 pounds) That was Friday night and that was when I took my last test results (before shocking Sat. morning. The PH reading was 7.5 then. So can cya lower PH? I also double tested PH today and it is at 6.9. I will wait for comments before I do anything, and see if I can learn anything more in pool school. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks again for your help. I saw at the bottom of the pool calc. how you can calculate the percentage of change from added chemicals. I calculated .37 ph loss as well. I will add the borax. I'm also aerating to lower TA so I will use 7.3 as a target ph and monitor it closely.
