I can smell my pool

I suspect that my pool is logging onto TFP, reading my threads where I brag about how easy pool care is, and then it says to Alexa, "hold my beer - I'm gonna mess with him."

I thought I was getting a whiff of the pool now and then lately. A contractor walked through this morning and said, "your pool smells good". I pretended to take it as a compliment.

I last tested 2 days ago. FC is down 1 ppm this morning. Water is crystal clear. Pump is running for 3 hours per day at various speeds. Reagents are fresh. Last swim was a month ago. (use the pool on the Aussie calendar)

If the CC test had detected anything, I'd brush, add some pump time and give FC a bump, but this has me confused.

Maybe we're smelling plain old free chlorine and I'm just obsessing?

Maybe he meant it smelled good because he couldn't smell any chlorine at all. I would take that as a compliment as well.

Update: after these posts I discovered some mold spots on the underside of the skimmer lid. Water has been testing good all along, but I bumped FC, bleached the lid, brushed and vacuumed the pool and all traces of smell are gone. I'm thinking that I had let FC dip a little too low at one point and I had a few hard-to-detect things growing.
