Hurting red eyes

Hi guys, just opened my pool today, yesterday kids went in today and when my son got out his eyes were all red, nose runny and he said eyes really hurt. My test from TF100
Chlorine 6
Cya 35
Ph 7.5
What causes eyes to be red and hurt? Other kids in pool amd didnt seem to effect them at all. Thanks in advance.

pH or CC. The pH you show should be fine. Could you smell 'chlorine'? Was he rubbing his eyes?

If you just opened your pool did you do a SLAM to clean it up from its winter closure? Pools in your neck of the woods can’t just be opened for swimming, there is usually algae or other organic stuff that needs to be taken care of.

Also, did you measure FC and CC. “Chlorine” tells us nothing. Are you using a K-2006 or TF-100 test kit? You need accurate after testing to understand the state of your pools water chemistry.

The description of your swimmers symptoms suggests that your issue lies with Combined Chlorine, not Free Chlorine. You need to test for that and if you find over .4 PPM that needs to be addressed first.
