Huge pressure buildup when vaccuming

When I turn off the pump after vaccuming, I get a HUGE water eruption back through the skimmer.

It almost blows the basket right out of the skimmer (and soaks my shirt, too!).

That can't be good, right? Is that an indicator that something is wrong with my setup?

My first guess would be that you are leaking air into the system during vacuuming. The air builds up in the filter, is compressed by the pump, then expands when the pump shuts off.

A crack in the vacuum hose, using the swivel end of the hose in the skimmer, or letting the vacuum head come out of the water on the steps are possible causes.
