how to tell if DE pool filter fingers are bad

I have a Hayward DE EC40C filter in my 24 ft round pool, recently I noticed DE and dirt at the bottom of the the pool. I took the filter apart, cleaned it in Muratic acid over night. It looked nice and white so I put it back. Started the pump and as soon as I started applying the DE thru the skimmer and saw some it on the return line into the pool. So I know I got some bad fingers ... is there a way to tell which ones are bad?

You have to look it every one VERY close. It can be as small as a small tear in the grid or a nick in the plastic. Go over them one at a time taking your time.
