I just plastered our new 18'x38' pool 2 1/2 weeks ago. Last week there was a powerful windstorm here in Palm Desert area., so of course it was on the night after the poolam was there, and not due back for 3 days. The pool was full of leaves from the older mature trees (Eucalypus and Ficus) in the yard. By the time the poolman came back, it had stained a large portion of the floor on the brand NEW plaster (Pebbletec FINA).

I was planning to use a robotic pool cleaner in addition to the poolman (who comes twice a week); since this is a 2nd home, where we are only there weekends and sometimes 2 weeks in between visits., but thge pool company recommended not using a pool robot until after 4 weeks, so it was not in use. My questions are:

1. How can I try to remove the brownish stains (probably from Eucalyptus leaves?) Without degrading the new plaster
2. How can I avoid this in the future during windy months? I am new to the desert, and didnt even know that they had very windy months. I am told a solar blanket will not work, and we did not have a built-in pool cover installed, since I didnt like the look of the rails and channels in the side of the pool
3. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Dolphin Sigma robot? I am told this is one of the better ones ????

Thank you!

Chlorine will remove the stains over time but you don't want high levels of chlorine in new plaster for about 60 days or it can bleach the plaster.

What color plaster is your pool?

To avoid the stains you need to keep the leafs out of the pool or get them out and not let them sit on the pool floor. Do you have a pool pole and leaf net? With a leaf net you can scoop out the leafs when they get into the pool. It is a PITA but prevents the staining.

What startup guide are you following?

What test kit do you have?

What is your current water chemistry?

My m ajor problem is that this is a 2nd home, and I cant just walk outside to scoop therm up, or I would. Even with a poolman twice a week, there can be a 3-4 day period between visits, I can see the leaves on outdoor cameras, but doesnt do much good if poolman cant get there for a day or two - That is why I am getting a robot, but cant install it for another week or so, according to pebbltec

I am following the Guide given me by PebbleTec
The paster is PebbleFina by Pebbletec
I have the TT100 ?? kit recommended on this site, but have not been there to use it, he is testing the water

Thank you!

A solar cover will keep most of the leaves out of the pool.

A Leaf net cover will do even better, because it overlaps onto the patio where a solar cover leaves a slight gap around the perimeter.
