How thick should concrete be for sundek

Hi. Concrete guys are coming tomorrow. But I have concerns. They came and installed rebar and wire mesh on top of filler for the concrete to lay over. However, from the filler to the mesh there are areas of 2 1/4 inches to 4 1/4 inches. How many inches should be between the filler and the wire mesh for a structurally sound concrete deck? We are having Sundek installed on top. Thank you for any help.

The minimum deck thickness should be 3.5" with the mesh centered in it. From what you're describing yours is much thicker so that's a good thing.

The picture looks like the mesh is sitting on the grade though?

They had filler and then a black tarp on top and then added more rocks/filler and then the mesh and rebar. Is this bad?

I guess I misunderstood your description. In the picture it looks like the deck will be 2" thick? If that's the case that's way too thin.

The base (filler) should be very well compacted.

Yes. In some areas it’s 2” and some it’s 4.5”. It is the thinnest in the middle then expands to the 3.5-4.5” towards the coping of the pool and towards the existing deck. Should I have them redo the whole deck?

It should be uniform in thickness and 2" is too thin. It also doesn't look to be very well compacted

They came and redid it. The areas are ALL now 3.5-4.5 inches. Thank y’all so much!!
