How much liquid chlorine do I need to SLAM

Liquid Chlorine
Went to the store today and they recommended me to buy Algaecide, Phosphate remover, Muriatic Acid, Metal remover and so on. I left with only 8 gallons of Suncoast Liquid Gold Chlorine (10% strength).

I want to SLAM the pool so I can get rid of the algae. Since my CYA is 40, based on the chart, I would need to have a FC of 16. How much liquid chlorine should I add tonight?

Please advise.

Thank you

You have a quality test kit. Please post the test results from your test kit.

Use PoolMath on how much chlorine to add to reach your SLAM level FC.

Good job walking out after only purchasing liquid chlorine! Use your TF-100 and make sure of your pool water chemistry levels. Reading that test printout the only thing I trust is that it says visible algae. That had to come from you. If you haven’t downloaded and installed PoolMath you should. You plug in your kits results and you can easily find how much you need to dose to get where you need to be.

post you test kit results and you can ask questions and the experts can help.

Will do my own test tonight - the algae yes he did ask if I see algae, I told him yes, I guess that triggered the sales push

I have the pool water test result using my TF-100

FC is 5
CC is 0
TA is 210
PH is 7.8
CYA is 40

I have 1 gallon muriatic acid that I poured last night. It brought down the TA down very slightly. It reduce my PH from 8.2 to 7.8. MY TA is still out of range. Pool Math does not tell me how much more of Muriatic Acid I need to add to reduce the TA..

So my question is, should I reduce TA before shocking the pool (to get rid of algae)? Or wait till TA is within range?

Thank you!

GREAT JOB!!!

You don't have to worry about TA at this point. Use Pool Math to reduce pH to 7.2. Wait about 30 minutes with pool pump on then you can start your SLAM!

Go to the link below and print the SLAM instruction and carry it with you while you are SLAMMING...can be helpful to read it a couple times...people sometimes miss steps or clues in the instructions!

SLAM on!

Thank you. I will SLAM on :)

Excellent! Suggestion: next time try Walmart. Most have 10% chlorine for $5/gal, and you don't have to decline to buy a bunch of stuff you don't need. Lowes is $6.

I bought the 10% chlorine from Pinch a Penny for $5/gallon. Now I have questions about muriatic acid. The ones I just bought from Leslie is a pack of 2 gallon for $31.00. It seems the one from HD or Lowes are cheaper, but I'm pretty sure they have different strength. So when people say use Muriatic Acid, which strength is recommended?

Thanks! Good to know, I will probably keep the one from Leslie just for this time and buy the Kem-Tek in the future.
Does it matter when I pour muriatic acid, is it better at night when the sun is down or day is ok too?
