How much chlorine do I need to add. No power issue

I am in Sarasota and have a 7500 gallon saltwater pool. I was right in the eye of Milton and do not have power and have no idea
when I may get it back. Pool is not running. The water is clear still, other than a little bit of debris that I got in there, but I am worried about the chlorine since the pumps are not running. Should I buy and add some liquid chlorine? Its been off about 18 hours now. Would love for it not to turn green. And advice would be much appreciated. Balance was good when the storm him. My chlorine was at 6 and now its 1.0. I have never added liquid chlorine

Glad you made it through ok enough. :)

There's great news. You were adding chlorine all along, you were just tweaking settings on the cell to do it on your behalf.

So same deal with just a little more effort. The sun will burn off X FC per day, less because it's late in the season but still some because it's still warm-ish by you. Minimum is lava and you need to end the day free and clear of that cliff. You can dose whenever you want during the swing, but consider the swing as you do. For example, in the early morning, you haven't lost any FC yet that day, and have lost it all by the evening.

Use poolmath to guide you how many FC you need today to stay on the healthy side of min. There is lots of wiggle room above target range. Do not hesitate to use it if needed. Being a bit high also affords you more time until the next dose is needed. Adjust your doses/intervals as necessary.

Sink the bottle near the water, or even slightly submerged to minimize splashing and pour a pencil sized stream. Don't split hairs on the ounces. Use easy intervals like 1/4 or 1/2 gallon overshooting the exact dose a little. Brush well after because bleach is heavier than water and may puddle up on the floor in that area.

Awesome. Thanks. The pool guy told me to add a gallon. I added a 1/2 gallon now, gonna brush and get all the debris out then test later. Absolutley appreciate the help. The water still looks fine as I have used the recs here since I got the pool and have had zero issues.

I have a 7500 gal salt water pool with Jandy Trueclear salt water cell. Pool is almost a year old here in south Florida. For most of the year, my FC has been running around 5-7 with my Cell running at 50%-70% just depending on the weather and our usage. We basically use the pool daily. A few weeks ago, my CYA was getting a little on the low end so I added some Clorox stabalizer in my skimmer. I bought a 4lb bag and added about 1/3 of the bag. The CYA level rose from around 50 up to 100. But now, my chlorine is out of sight. Went up to around 10 and now is hovering 13 for a couple days even though I have lowered my salt cell down to 20%. My pool runs about 11 hours per day from 8-7. I was worried that my measurement was not correct so I took a sample to Leslies today and it was 12 on their test.

My salt level is a little low at 2850 which is what I measured and my total Alk is on the low end at 70. I know I need to bring those up but my FC is my biggest issue right now. They also told me that my phosphates were very high (something I have never measured) at 1100. I got some No PHos from them and will add it tomorrow morning. I cleaned the filter this afternoon along with my salt cell.

Any thoughts on my FC so high? TIA

What specific test kit are you using?

If your CYA is truly 100, a FC of 10 is appropriate.

TA of 70 is good. TA down to 50 is perfectly fine.

Don't worry about phosphates.

Return the NoPhos and do not add it. Your phosphates are NOT high. Leslie likes to skim money from you, selling you unnecessary treatments.

You have discovered how CYA protects chlorine from the Suns UV burnoff. Now you just need to be patient this time of year and let the chlorine degrade naturally.

Your pool is safe to swim with a FC of 12. It is safe up to a SLAM level of 38 with CYA 100.

Your alkalinity is fine at 70 and is ok down to 50. Leave it alone.

Add more salt and lower your SWG to 10%.

What test kit are you using?

With a CYA of 100 you should do the dilution test...

For CYA > 90ppm, repeat the test adjusting the procedure as follows:
  1. Fill the mixing bottle with pool water to the lower mark (15 ml line).
  2. Continue filling the mixing bottle to the upper mark (30 ml line) with tap water.
  3. Shake briefly to mix.
  4. Pour off half of the contents of the mixing bottle so it is again filled to the lower mark (15 ml line).
  5. Continue the test normally by adding R-0013, but multiply the final result by two.

If you need to dilute the pool water further, then apply these ratios:[8]

Pool waterTap or distilled waterMultiply result by
112
123
145

Note that when doing a diluted test not only do you multiply the range of the test you multiply the error rate of the test, so results are a ballpark - not an absolute.

See CYA Testing for tips in how to read the test results.

Wow. I am using a Taylor test kit for everything weekly. The only thing I can not figure out is the CYA with the taylor kit. That black dot test just does not seem to work for me. Not sure why. I have a Water Guru that does daily testing and I am using it for CYA. I have had my water tested twice since I have been using it and the CYA test on it vs Leslies has been pretty close. Leslies test today was 101 and my tester had 109. I use my Taylor kit for FC, Total Alk, Hardness. I have a little digital meter that I measure PH and Salt with. Has always been pretty close. My ph today was 7.4 which as exactly what they measured. So phosphates of 1100 is OK? I dont need to worry about that?

Leslies test today was 101 and my tester had 109.

Most CYA testers have a maximum of 100. So your CYA can be much higher, but you will get the maximum the tester can go to.

The dilution test works around that limitation.

So phosphates of 1100 is OK? I dont need to worry about that?

1100? What? It is 1100 PPB, which stands for Parts Per Billion. All your other tests measure PPM, or Parts Per Million.

Do you realize how little 1100 Parts Per Billion is?

Phosphates do not get to be high until 10,000 or more.

1100 ppb.

I get that its a small amount but like I said above, it is not something I have test for before which is why Im asking here.
