How long should a pressure gauge last?

Hi,

I noticed yesterday that my pressure gauge is broke... again. I just installed this one when I redid most of the above ground plumbing a few months ago. I replaced it because the previous one wasn't working. I had installed that one last year when I first started managing the pool because the one that came with the pool wasn't working.

I've had a pool for about 18 months and have gone through 2 pressure gauges now. That can't be normal.
 
No idea. I did adjust the speed of the pump several times because I was trying to tune my suction side cleaner. Adjusting the pump never changes the pressure rapidly, though. I also did a backwash and rinse cycle. I suspect that is when it happened, but I don't know why. And I wasn't paying attention to it directly to know if that's it.

I have a theory about last year. I was using a pressure side cleaner about that time, and there's a valve above the pump to direct flow to the cleaner port. I realized later that I was spiking the pressure at the filter when I would close that valve... water hammer. I think I must have broken the gauge that way. I haven't used the pressure side cleaner in a month or so, and I'm also more careful to close the valve slowly.
