How do you measure CYA if it’s over 80

I have the tailor test kit recommended by TFP. My Cya test only goes to 80 and I can still see black dot perfectly. How do I test CYA if over 80?

My 10000 gallon in ground pool is 2 yes old and always crystal clear and requires little maintence but recently it got cloudy for the first time in two years. I test chorine and TA/Ph once a week but the other tests I only test every 6 weeks. I only use liquid bleach and acid to maintain my pool.
Yesterday my CH and CYA were unlike what I have ever seen. my chorline was at 0 and I added 2gallons of chorine at noon. Today by 3pm chorline was at 0!
Ph8
Cya 80
CH 170
TA 120

I’d like to know how much water I need to drain but first need to know what my CYA really is.

What makes Cya go up if I don’t ever use tabs?
Why is my CH number so out of range what happened?

You have it backwards. If you can see the dot at 80, fill to 70 and try again. Keep going until the dot is obscured at a fast glance. Don't stare or your brain will play ticks on you.

For cya-
The larger numbers are at the bottom of the tube - the lower numbers are at the top.
If you’re at 80 & still see the dot then your cya is less than 80, keep filling the tube until the dot is obscured, if it never gets obscured/disappears after filling the entire tube then you have less cya than the lowest amount marked on your comparator.
Exactly Which kit do you have?

Ch & cya are lost due to water exchange.
Do you have an autofill or an overflow drain?
Have you exchanged water since your last test (like pumping water out due to heavy rains)?

Oops you are totally right. I was testing at night! My Cya reading is 30 but I can still see dot. Is this a time I should use chorline tabs to intentionally raise Cya? Or is it ok that Cya is under 30?

For calcium hardness the bag of chorlox hardener suggests ca of 175-225 but tfp app suggests a much higher amount. What is the correct recommendation?

You are going to want to get the CYA to 30. You'll probably need to go higher in the peak season in TX. Tabs are an easy way to raise it a little of that's all you need.

What kind of pool do you have ? Please fill out your Signature.

Also, the last I knew, the only chlorox product that didn't have unwanted additives was their CYA. Avoid all the others, including their bleach.

What brand of calcium hardness increased do you suggest?
I use puritech from Amazon.
Also after adding 3 gallons of bleach 12.5% last night my chorline 0 today! Any suggestions?
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test

There are two choices for that much loss. Algae, or no CYA to protect the FC. Or A because B.

Either way you need a CYA of 30 so get it up as soon as you can. Be mindful until then that the sun may be burning your FC in no time. If you can test/add mid day also, it would help.

Austin has pretty hard water. I doubt you should add any calcium. With evaporation your CH will rise naturally.
