This Spring, when I opened my filter housing, it was full of mold. I had the pool company leave it open so I can clean it good before closing. Then, we had a loss in our family and I forgot. Ugh. So here I am. They fill my lines with antifreeze. I can see some punk in the bottoms. No big deal. Should I just put the lid on and call it a day?

Hmm. My filter is cleaned and stored in the garage. You put your entire pump in the garage?
Yes. The only things that stay out are the multiport valve and the heater, which is covered. I have a liquid chlorine Stenner pump system that also goes into the garage, as well as the diving board. These things will last much longer if you keep them in a dry, protected space over the winter.
