How do I blow-out my pool lines? Need help understanding my plumbing.

Catanzaro,

While waiting for my blower to arrive I decided to do some experimenting.
During normal operating mode, the valve is positioned as show below. This morning I turned the Jandy to the middle so both sides are on. (this is what you described as the Main Drain Position, I believe). I was able to get a leaf slowly sucked through the other hole as you explained above.
Also, my pool's side vacuum port was providing strong suction. When I turned the valve back to normal operating mode, there was no longer any suction coming out of the side vacuum port.
When I turn the valve to the vac side, alone, the pump begins to lose prime. So, I can either have the valve set in the middle or set to skimmer position.

When blowing air through the skimmer port, do you think I should isolate and blow through valve positions one at a time? Or, will just having the valve completely off sufficiently blow air through all the jets? Of my two ports in the skimmer should I blow only from the back one? And, should I have the other port closed while blowing?
