How deep can I go?

How deep is the water in your pool? Just put up a 27'x52" pool, which looks great, by the way (pats self on back) anyway, the actual water depth is 44".
How deep before the skimmer becomes ineffective? Can I add more water?

Fill to the center screw on the faceplate.

Your skimmer becomes ineffective when the water level no longer cascades over the weir door and into basket housing.
Also the weir door when operating correctly keeps floating debris from moving back out of the housing and into your pool.
When the kids start doing cannonballs off the ladder, all bets are off though.

My skimmer looks a lot like that one and it works well until the water gets about 1" from the top of the mouth. Above 1" from the top it doesn't 'suck' the floating debris in as well.
