As someone who is just getting familiar with pool water chemistry and has taken upon the TFP methods, I cannot be the only one who wonders how hotels and resorts maintain their pools.

I am currently in the Caribbeans and while it is beautiful here with endless pool options and the amazing beach, I don’t find myself wanting to go into the pool as much just because I don’t know the chemistry behind it. Id rather enjoy the beach and enjoy my own chlorinated water at home.

There are some birds taking a dip in the pool water, guests coming into the water after the beach and some guest who probably should shower before taking a dip and a high UV of 12 but it is clear without any chlorine smell, the water feels soft, I just wonder how well it is maintained.

Does anyone else feel the same while they are at public pools at hotels and resorts? Thankfully it is an “adults only” resort so no babies with diapers in the pool.

I’m still going to enjoy the water here but just something that I thought about since learning so much in the past year of keeping water clean and in top shape.

I know some large resorts use a chlorine gas system. I happen to be able to see one some years ago. I don't remember much how it all operated but it was a big system - like a SWCG on steroids. I think it is used on very large pools i.e. over 50,000 gallons because it is very expensive.

On another note, not sure if you noticed at your resort, but I have been in 3 public pools over the last month or so, not a one of them uses a weir door in the skimmers. I go around to see what has been captured and see no weir doors. Not sure why - unless they break and do not repair them. Or they don't want some kid putting their hand in there and have it get trapped.

That's the one knock about TFP. Our pools, once balanced, are beautiful to look at and swim in, but hotels/resorts and non TFP pools not so much. I have the same issue when on vacation and at some non TFP pools. When I am at one of those pools, I make sure I don't get any water in my mouth. You just have to try to put it out of your mind and enjoy your vacation. Resort hot tubs also scare me, but they are great to use when on vacation. Again, I block out what may be in the water.

I don't ever recall seeing these resort pools being tested or even being vacuumed. Must be done VERY early in the morning. How about some pictures of the resort pool to show us what's going on?

Of course. Here’s a really good one that I took this morning before everyone woke up.
It’s actually really clean or appears to be. Anyhow I wonder how beers or alcoholic drinks have been spilled in here.

I develop class A multifamily apartments. Our pool designs have large (75gal) tanks of chlorine and acid (even if we do a saline pool). Commercial pools are a completely different animal I think.

I don't get out much and this was my *one time*
