I have an inflatable hot tub whose circuit board died last weekend, and a replacement control base is on the way. Problem is, we are going to be on vacation when it arrives. I have used the dichlor to bleach method, cya is around 30, and borates added to keep pH right at 7.6.
I plan to keep adding a little bleach each day to keep FC around 5 until we leave this weekend for a week long vacation. The water is not circulating, so I am concerned. But I don't want to drain and have sit dry for a week if unnecessary. Not even sure which condition would be worse for growth.
The hot tub is in our basement, covered, and I don't expect a hard freeze while we are gone.
Thanks

Leave it empty with no freeze concerns and purge it with ahhsome when you get back. Run a few doses through it and you'll be good as new.

For a CYA of 30, fc of 5 is OK, upper is 6 (where I try to keep mine, but I have an ozone generator too).

While I agree with @Newdude, you could also let typical consumption help you make the decision. If you have a typical fc drop even when not in use, maybe calculate that for the time gone and add up to that or stop at slam level? Couldn't hurt...

Right on, thank you. Retested water after sitting 2 days, FC dropped about 2. Disconnected the control base and blew out the pipes with a leaf blower. Sitting in front of a fan now. Presuming I will be using a new control unit, so this one will be out of operation anyway. Thinking about shocking to 16 the night before we leave. If it looks slummy when we return, we could just dump the water and start over.
