I have a booster pump that is presently hard wired into the system I would like to use a plug and a pigtail wire instead of the hard wire setup. This to make it easier to remove pump for winter storage. In general does the code allow a 240 volt pump to be powered this way

NEC does allow cord / plug connected pool motors as long as the cord isn't over 3 feet and is a single twist lock style receptacle and protected by a GFCI breaker. You will also want to use an in-use type cover.
