HIGH Opening pressure!

New to my inground pool. Had someone close it for me last season. Trying opening myself. Replaced all the drain plugs and opened valves from skimmers. Ran pump on WASTE for a time. Seeing occasional bubbles in the pool but no suction at the skimmers (which are clean). I'm thinking I need to work on priming the system yes?

The problem is also that my pump guage is running super high. I assume there is air in the system that needs to be bled out(?) Guage reads 30 running on waste and 55 on filter settings. I'm scared to run in at either until I get this figured out.
It is a newer Hayward sand filter. I don't see an air release anywhere. Do I just pull the guage to vent it?

What would have been the correct sequence to re-start and re-prime my system upon opening.

Thank you.

Welcome to tfp😊
Does your gauge go to zero when the pump is off?
Can you post a pic of your equipment and plumbing from various angles?

Still curios about at what setting to put the sand filter while I restart the pump and try to prime...
Filter.
& definitely Get a new gauge!
What is the model number of your sand filter- we can look it up & see if it has a relief valve.
It can take a few minutes for it to prime and settle down
Pics of your setup including all valves would be helpful.
