High CYA? Another water dump?

So, when I came home last night, I tested my CYA and it was pretty high. I don't know how high it was as it was off the charts. So I guessed and then dumped about 40% (give or take) of my water. Here's are some pics.

As you can see, I took it down to the top of the light. I already started to put more water in when I took this pic.


It pretty much took all night for my water to fill up. I left the pump running and just allowed the jets to stream out like fountains
So I came home from work, ran another CYA test after allowing the pump to circulate the water all day. And here are my results for my current CYA test.

Looks like somewhere around 110.

Should I dump my water again?

I plan on starting up my SWG sometime after I get all levels settled.

Here are my current values.

Temp 73
FC 4.2
PH 7.5
TA 60
CH 90
Salt 2100 (I know I need to add after last nights drain. Not adding till I get some answers here. Also the SWG is off)

I know I need to raise my TA. My water looks perfect BTW.

I also did several OCLT this week and I passed by only losing about .6ppm overnight.

So I guess my question is (and I think I know my answer) Should I do another dump of water or should I just let it fly. I know it called for a max of 80 on the CYA test, but what will happen if I keep it as it is?

You might want to do a diluted CYA test as noted on the TFP Pool School - CYA page. That should help you see a more accurate CYA since it still appears to be over 100. Focus on that CYA before anything else so you don't waste chemicals.

You can either consider becoming a TFP supporter to earn storage space, or use an external photo sharing site like Photobucket and copy the IMG link back to your thread.

Yup, just as I figured, it was right around 55. So that puts me around 110. Darn..... I'm disappointed! Guess I'm dumping more water!

Well... Got it dumped again, for the 2nd night in a row. Sure hope this cures my CYA issues.

Hopefully it will be majority full in the AM when I get up. I think this puts me at about 3/4 water change out in the last two days

Ok so my pool is full of water and here are my results for today. (I was able to get it to refill over night and my pump has been running all day)

Temp: 73
FC: 1.4
PH: 7.5
TA: 50
CH: 70
CYA: 57
Salt: 1120

So if I'm looking at this properly, I should add the following:

FC: 10% bleach: add about 54 ounces.
PH: Leave alone
TA: Add about 77 ounces of baking soda
CH: Leave alone? I was told if you were going to a salt pool you don't want it high? Thoughts? Pool math says 0-350..
CYA by a little: I'll try and get it close to 70. I have a sock here with me to put it in the skimmer basket. Pool math says to add 28 ounce by weight.
Salt: I'll add about 284 pounds of salt to get it as close to 3200ppm as possible. Maybe a little over.

Can I do all this at once? Or should I only do one at a time, starting with the CYA? I'd like to get the salt in tonight so I can possible get my generator working tomorrow

wait at least 30 minutes between chemical additions while the pump is running.

If it helps, my pool volume is a bit under yours and adding 1lb of cya granules (after being fully dissolved via sock)
adds 10 ppm of cya.

I'd maybe leave the TA at 50 and see if your ph remains steady as is in the coming weeks....but don't count that til the cya is in and
fully dissolved and mixed with your water, your ph will be heading down a bit after you add the cya.

as for the CH I wouldn't add any. It really is not necessary for vinyl liner pools.

Got all added that I needed to this evening. Hopefully all will check out tomorrow evening.

I just noticed something, I only have a 15,300k gal pool not 16. Oops.. I'll fix that. I double checked my numbers before adding chems.

I too would not change the TA. And there's no point in worrying about low CH in your vinyl pool.

I would suggest performing an oclt to be sure that you don't need the slam process.
