Not sure if this is the right sub topic area but here it is..

I've been struggling with CH creeping up to 900ppm since filling our new pool on November 7, 2022 with lots of MA.. Like a gallon a week or so.

Plan has been to drain this winter when the water is colder and then clean some self inflicted stains on the steps created by construction of an outdoor kitchen with metal studs (metal shavings).

There has been limited scaling on the waterline tile but the plaster which was quite smooth is now rough. I have been able to scrape some of this off with my fingernails but other areas not so much.

I am thinking of hitting it up with a stainless steel brush and very deluted MA (10:1 or weaker) while it's drained.

Thoughts?

Read Calcium Scale - Further Reading

Diamond pad sanding is the best way to remove the scale while the pool is drained. Either manually or with power tools.

We got a couple of packages of these and they're working great in the pool.. it's nice and smooth again where we've sanded.

It releases clouds of calcium which will just scale again though so I'm going to shoot for CSI less than -0.3 to -0.6 until it cools off enough to drain it to bring down the CH on refill.
