Hi, new member

Since you have an inline tablet chlorinator so presumably use Trichlor tabs/pucks, your CYA level is probably high, but even assuming it's just 30 ppm you should raise the FC level in your pool to 12 ppm if you want to get rid of the algae that is growing. 1 ppm FC is most certainly not going to be enough. And you aren't going to be able to clear this in 2 hours. You could have cleared it from earlier this week if you had raised the chlorine level to shock level and maintained it there. Shocking is not a one-time addition of chlorine -- it is MAINTAINING a high level of chlorine to kill algae much faster than it can grow.

Also, if your CYA level is very high, then the only way to lower that is with partial drain/refill (or multiple ones). For every 10 ppm Free Chlorine (FC) added by Trichlor, it also increases CYA by 6 ppm so it does not take long to get high if there is no water dilution.

I tried the CYA test but couldn't get the black dot to disappear. I guessing that in itself is a result....
Yep, we call that zero (or maybe below 20 - too low to read/test); however, please confirm before adding CYA.
Here's a link to the visual for the test that may help you confirm your results:
