It might have use for short-term usage during vacations and the like, but I wouldn’t use it on a daily basis. The CYA accumulation shows why.
 
I kept my chlorinator when I switched to salt water. When I need CYA, I use pucks to raise it and turn off the chlorine generator during that time.

If you are using liquid chlorine, consider keeping the chlorinator to be able to use pucks while on vacation (as IceShadow suggested). Before doing this though, know your CYA level and use pool math app to tell you the effect of adding that many pucks. You don't want to overshoot your CYA on accident just because you used pucks while on vacation.
