Help wth pump & filter selection on small ABG.

Getting ready to start shopping for a replacement pump and filter for our small ABG. 5300 gal. Need some advice.
currently have an 10 year old Hayward 60 gpm 1HP pump, Sandmaster SM-1710100# sand filter with Hayward multiport (recently replaced). Very minimal piping.
I'm under the assumption that the 60 gpm 1HP is too much for my needs, but that's my assumption based on research so far.
I was getting a good amount of sand in the pool at the end of last season. suspect bad tubes in bottom of sand filter.
Also noticed some swelling of the filter unit when the pump cut on.

I'd like to replace with a reliable, correctly sized unit. Any advice in selecting the right unit would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

That is normal with most filters as long as it is not excessive.

Given the age of the system, I would be more inclined to replace everything rather than fix the filter. ABG combo systems will probably give you your best bang for your buck:

Pentair PNSD0060DO2260 Sand Dollar SD60 Sand Filter and Dynamo 1-1/2HP 2-Speed Above Ground Pool Pump

There are cheaper systems too but the trade off is usually life of the equipment.

That's what I was thinking. The age of everything warrants a replacement. The previous owner may not have properly maintained the equipment well.
A combo package sounds ideal. Just wondering if a 3/4 hp would be sufficient. I think it might be. I like the bigger filters on the 1 HP combo units though.

I would go with the larger systems because they have larger filters. Just get one with a two speed motor and run on low speed most of the time. Do not get too concerned about the higher HP label rating as it does not hold too much meaning for these pumps. They are much smaller than what the label indicates. This is why I suggest the combo I did.
