Scenario -
* new water this year (seasonal pool)
* about 40-50 cya (i am bad at that one -- likely closer to 40)
* i know pool got down to 2 fc for a day in the last two or three weeks but otherwise the min is 3 and i normally dose it up to 6 or 7 each evening. never any cc's over .5 and normally none
* i put an old ladder in it that was in a dirt alley for years -- thought i had hosed it well and to be honest thought the pool would further clean it. i had not realized all the holes in it (filled with bees) and did not realize that the bottom step, which was embedded in dirt, was filled with dirt and grime on the inside
* pool water has looked crystal clear to me throughout
* several days ago I saw a stain a bit downstream from the return. sort of brownish green with blurry borders. i thought it was from acid -- i use a lot of acid and pour it in (as slowly as my patience that day allows) right at the return so I thought maybe that stain spot was where it sank to. the stain does not appear to have texture and does not change when I brush it. so i just assumed i needed to be more careful with the acid
* then yesterday i saw four or five similar discolorations other places in the pool all of which also don't change with brushing
* i did oclt last night and lost zero fc and have zero cc
Could the stains be from firework remnants that sat in the pool about 40 hours? When I finally got in to vacuum, there was cardboard, a lot of gritty sandy stuff that vacuumed right up, and some hard pieces of what sort of looked like chalk. I did not immediately see the stains, but they might have been there. Or would something left over in the water *associated with the fireworks* account for delayed staining?
OR ... does it sound like the start of algae --- does it start with stains? I definitely have not been a good bbb'er this year --- lazy; forgot to add gallons when doing calculations after i added over a foot of water soon before july 4; put in the filthy ladder after hosing it off but not understanding all the holes and their treasures. I plan to re-do the oclt in the next day or so and in the meantime run it a bit higher than normal.
