I am starting an away job assignment in about a week, till December. I am the sole pool care “specialist”. My CYA is a little low at 30. I am located in Indiana.

I have some tablets. Would I be ok to use them till time to close my pool. Will have to drain water at that time. I used them for a week, in a floater, while on vacation and did not see a significant rise in CYA.

My second question is; we have a solar cover, how do we use tablets with that cover? Would like to swim as far into the season as we can.

Thank you in advance for the advise!

Here’s the approximate effects each dissolved 3” 8oz tab will have on your water

Along with being mindful of fc & cya you also must watch ph as the tabs are acidic. Be sure to use ones that are just plain trichlor if u go the tab route (no xtra blue etc).
Will u be home on the weekends to check things? If so you could shore your bets with liquid chlorine then as well as dealing with ph & ta if necessary.
Alternatively, Can u “train” someone in your household to add a predetermined amount of liquid chlorine every couple of days?
Deploying a cover should help with fc loss but it might be tricky keeping a floater from hanging out in one specific area unless u tether it somehow where its away from the walls.

Yes, I will be home on the weekends. Due to this situation, my wife is showing a lot of interest in helping with the pool.

Thank you for the suggestion of tethering the floater and the type of tablets to use.
