Has a burn smell and white, hard, plastic seems to have fallen off in a clump. Will try and post a picture. It was making sound like rocks were in it for about 24 hours, then stopped. It now sounds normal but the smell and the heat aren’t. I’ll try and post a pic. Thank you

Where did the plastic come from?

I suspect that the fan got hit with debris and that's what made the noise. The plastic might be fan bits. With no fan, the motor will overheat.

The fan is inside the motor at the front holes.

The air should blow out the back holes.

Do you have a picture of the pump?
