It’s 24 F out here in DFW and my pump motor sounds like it’s about to blow. The temp is going to get worse overnight, and probably will run a majority of the day tomorrow until it gets above freezing maybe in late afternoon.

Should I just go ahead and drain it below the jets and stop the inevitable failure? Or is there a way to just drain the above ground pipes since it’s not as bad as the deep freeze we had last year?

You need to drain the surface equipment. Also place a gallon plastic jug weighed with some pebbles or rice in the skimmer. No need to drain below the jets, assuming your pool equipment is above the elevation of the pool.

Pull the drain plugs from the pumps, most have two. Drain the filter. I see no heater. Remove the SWCG if possible.

We filled the skimmer with foam - same concept?

Pulled drain plugs, opened backwash slider valve and filter valve, pulled out the SWCG, pulled both plugs on both pumps, and pulled out the check valve guts.

The drain plug on the filter is so tight the plastic is breaking, so just left that on and blanketed the bottom few inches of the filter and threw a tarp over everything.

Thanks!!
