I have an above ground 22' x 54" 11,000 gallon Coleman swimming pool. This is my second season, and I am working on opening the pool. I am using an Intex Krystal Clear 16 inch sand filter pump for filtration. This seems like a good filter and it does well with the pool.
Days ago, my water went cloudy and I could not correct. Everything was balanced....so I took the filter apart and sure enough, the sand was filled with the pine needles from the three large trees not far from my pool in my backyard. These needles both penetrated and nearly clogged the diffuser as well. I had to change the sand, and clean the diffuser by hand. I replaced the sand, and ordered some filter socks in order to prevent the needles from going through the filter. Now for the problem. My filter operates well at 8-10psi. When I put the filter sock around the filter, my pressure drops to about 2psi and I barely have flow. I need a way to keep these needles from getting sucked into the sand filter. I will take any advice that anyone will give. Much appreciated!
