Help me figure this out

I am setting up my intex ultra 16x9 above ground pool. I’m a single mom trying to do this on my own and not very handy. I had this pad built and filled with sand. I am starting to lay down my pressure treated wood for my
leg supports. I am using this 2x4 and level attached to make sure each support is level and even with its neighbor. Is this the best way to go about it ? Should the wood be pushed down to the ground underneath?
Any advice is appreciated...

The wood should definitely be sitting on solid ground and not on the sand. Otherwise settling will occur.

I would use a water level (search here) to get the pads level. You could even do a makeshift transit with a laser temp gun like I did to level them all.
