Help me decide... Jersey Shore Area

So glad I found this forum, as I'm in the market for an in ground pool. I've been dead set on doing a concrete / gunite pool, but the more I read, I'm starting to consider fiberglass more.

Here is a little about my situation, so hopefully you guys can help: (also looking for recommendation on who to work with in the NJ area. Maybe there is a sub forum I should look at too?)

  • Total all-in budget with landscaping is under $50k (hopefully)
  • Wife and I want something simple and about 400 sq/ft
  • Like the kidney shape design for our space
  • Have very flat land already with dirt/sand from living down the shore area
  • Don't plan on doing much maintenance at all. I'd rather get a service contract and "just show up and swim". Don't really want to be bothered too much with it, I just want to enjoy it :)
  • Only looking for 6ft in the deep end. No need for a slide or diving board

Just starting to meet with contractors next week, and looking to get the build done before winter so I'll have a full season of swim next year.

Biggest question, is concrete or fiberglass? Recommendations for who to work with in NJ?

Thank you guys

Hi! You are going to love having a pool when it is done!

Which one?????? They are both good pools. You will be able to swim faster if you do a fiberglass BUT the site prep is a MAJOR thing to make sure of with these.

I would get 3+ quotes for both and see how you feel after you get them.

PLEASE share them here and we can help pick them apart LOL We LOVE to help others spend their money!

Got it thanks for the help Kim. Meeting with the first PB later today.

The site the pool is going is flat already. Our soil is a sandy dirt mix here at the Jersey shore, so not sure if that effects my choice, but we'll see I guess.

Any recommendations or places I can look for additional builder quotes/research?

Yelp, google reviews, ask on Craigs list BUT use care and make sure to check references of them.

Do you know anyone that has a pool? Ask them who did it.

Call your pool stores and see who THEY know builds pools. Check references! Go to see the pools AND ask them "would you have them build another pool for you?" Take notes!
