So totally not sure what happened here but I have a brand new Intex 3000 gph sand filter. I followed instructions and everything looked good until I filled the pool and water was leaking from the top of it and sand was coming out of the return. So I opened it up and found the standpipe and laterals piece that is all connected somehow was now more on top of the sand rather than the sand being on top of it. I'm not sure what happened there ??? After taking off the multi port head part the pipe part stuck out even more from the filter where I couldn't be able to fit the multi port head back on. I did empty a bunch of the sand and was able to reposition the standpipe/lateral piece under the sand but now I don't have enough sand. Am I ok to just add more sand or am I best to completely empty it and start over? Or is this part of a bigger problem? The filter is brand new and I really don't see anything broken as far as I can tell. I just am using the cartridge filter for now until I figure out what to do. I appreciate all advice

If the laterals are seated at the bottom of the filter and the multiport valve now has room to seat properly on top of the filter, then you can add a little more sand as needed. Be sure to not add too much, and don't get any in the center standpipe. Also be sure to do a very good rinsing of the new sand before going right to filter.

Ok, thanks! What happens if some sand does get in the standpipe?
