Howdy all. Yes, I'm yet another victim of the big freeze down here in Texas. You know the story; we have a cracked pump body, multiple ruined valves and pipes. Have some of the parts to replace, but still waiting on others. Looks like it'll be at least a couple more weeks until there is any chance to get it up and running again, so trying to figure out how to keep it from turning into a toxic swamp in the meantime as temp are now near EIGHTY down here... Trying to keep the Crud out of it, and have shocked it, but need to start circulating the water in the pool. Any ideas?? Thinking maybe a trash or transfer pump to at least start moving the water around... ALL suggestions GREATLY appreciated!!

Keep adding chlorine. Keep your FC in the upper target range as shown on the FC/CYA Levels. Mix the water as well as you can. A sump pump or anything that will move the water around will help. Even vigorously brushing a couple times per day will work.

Do you have a robot cleaner? If so, I would think running that a few times a day would mix the water and chlorine enough. Good luck on getting the parts. A neighbor of ours had her pump stolen this week and she cant get a new one for months.

A sump pump will work great just to move water if needed and shock shock shock and brush regularly. Had the same issue when our pump went down mid august a few years ago.

I actually created a poor man’s version of a surface trash skimmer by placing the sump pump into a 5 gallon bucket with a couple of 25 lbs plate weights in the bottom of the bucket and set the bucket just below the water line on a pool step. I covered the top of the bucket with mesh window screen and zip tied it into place with a little sag in the middle. The discharge hose can go out a large hole drilled into the side of the bucket or you can just work the mesh screen around the hose and let it come out the top. I then drilled a couple of 3/4” holes in the side of the bucket and ran the discharge line out to my Spa that overflows into the pool. This allowed the bucket to act as a skimmer as well as a water circulator.

It took a little trial and error to get it working but once I got it set up it worked brilliantly while I waited for my replacement pump to come in. I still have the funny looking 5 gallon bucket with holes in it in my garage should the need ever arise again.

We repaired our pump housing. Used product on the inside. It’s still holding!

Can’t find a pump housing anywhere, right now.
