HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to turn

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

What is clarifier? And the flock was just 11 dollars and it is three times the amount i need. I wouldn't have bought it if it were more than that. For the first time my trip to the pool store was less than 20 for the flock and a new gauge. It was amazing LOL.

And yes Leebo, that is what i was thinking too. It's clean, just not clear. Now, i did try flock way back when and it was just as you said, the pool store told me to do it when i had green water and the baqua stuff wasn't clearing it. And, even with that horrid green swamp it worked. I could actually see the bottom. BUT there was a ton and i mean a TON of stuff all green. When i tried to vacuum, within two minutes my entire pool was totally green again and my filter was totally filled up with leaves. It was impossible.

But, now that i have clean water, with just clouds, makes sense to me it may work this time and may at least help. I know i can't get rid of all of it this way because some will float around when i vacuum. But, it will help. Right?

I work tomorrow but the flock bottle says 12-24 hours is best. So i'm thinking i could flock tonight and vacuum tomorrow night after work. Then add my bleach tomorrow night to shock again and see what she looks like on Monday AM.

Sound like a plan?

Good to hear from you newpoolowner!!!!!!

Wow you are a really long way from home!!!!

I am holding off on taking water out of the pool just yet. I know i should have long ago, but none of us thought it would take this long. Now when i do my major vacuuming, which i've done this past week about 4 times, i'd say i've lost a good 4-6 inches of water each time and refilled. That's not a lot but it didn't help a thing. The cloudy particles just consumed that water as well. That probably made no sense at all, but i'm still hanging on to the fact that this water is clean. Just not clear.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

If you do use the flock, when you get ready to vacuum, you must do this very slowly as not to stir up the mess. I used flock to clear my cloudy water and I vacuumed the stuff to waste.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Also, i tested my pH and it's 6.8.

Pool Calculator says to add 105 oz of Borax. Do i just throw that in? Is there a specific way to do that? I want to raise that before i flock. How long does it take to work?

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I have not put in an Borax so I cannot advise that. But the superfloc that I got from the pool store worked great. I put it in the pool about 12 noon and let the pump circulate for 1 hour (according to directions) and let I turned the pump off and let it sit until the next morning about 6 am. I vacuumed it then.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

The pool school thread says to mix the borax with water and slowly pour it in front of the return jet. "Borax is best added by pre-dissolving it in a bucket of water and then pouring that slowly in front of a return."

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Thanks poolmama. I'll go do that now.

As for the flock...keep your fingers crossed!!!!

Of note: i had to test my TA to figure out how much Borax to add.

My TA was 160...thinkin that is a little high. Not sure if this is a problem....

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I'm sorry i don't know. It said Algistat is all i remember. Someone posted a pic on here a little while back. That is what i was using. There were three different things i added. They were numbered 1 2 and 3

Just added all of the borax i have. It was just 76 oz. But, i suppose that will do until i get the flock done.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

7:00 Flock in. Pump on recirculate. Will keep it there for two hours, then turn it off.

Oh and i went looking at the Baqua stuff. No, i don't remember anything saying CDX.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

Chem geek....I asked earlier about the CDX and she is using the plain baquacil....not the CDX. I tend to remember a few years ago on other forums issues with the conversion but for the life of me I can't remember where I read them or what issues they were. All I remember was the only fix was a drain. Do you have any links to these problems, or explanation on what they were??

NikiBelle.....please take all I say here with 1/2 merit. It's hot and I'm an idiot. :)

I think clarifier and flock are the same thing. Also at this point no longer shock only at night. Shock 24/7 with the cya in the water. Your levels should start holding and you should waste less chlorine at this point.

Edit.....or just add flock now. :)

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I believe so yes

I will not swim in a green pool
I will not float in that mess
I would not, could not, should not.....

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I flocked a pool once on advice from pool store. What I remember is I had to cut the pump off for 48 hours. If there is any algae it will start back up. Now back to my experience. The flock did work, what it does is coagulate small particles to make big particles and with the pump off they sink to the bottom. Then you vacuum to waste. The problem I encountered was when I went to vacuum it stired everything up again. Now the pool finally cleared but it took awhile to vacuum all the flock out.

So back to Nik. If your cc remain low, I think you should go ahead and flock, but be prepared to vacuum a lot. And watch the FC & cc levels. Now someone who has more experience may discourage you.

Re: HELP i'm in a complete mess and don't know which way to

I'm flocking as we speak. I added and then ran on recirculate for 2 hours. It's now turned off. The directions say leave pump off for 12 to 24 hours before trying to vacuum. So, I will vacuum tomorrow night after work. I realize it is hard to do so because everything gets cloudy quickly. But, it's a shot....

I'll rebleach and get ahead of that algae after vacuuming tomorrow night....last thing i need is for the algae to come back.

Last test my CC was 0-.5. Let's hope it stays that way.
