We are fairly new pool owners,3 years in. Saltwater pool 38000 gallon. Been fine until this year. Pool looked great for a while after opening but then started noticing some staining on bottom of liner in shallow end, now in deep end as well. Got the Taylor TF-100 test kit and have been testing for about a week myself. Had been relying on pool store up until then. Stains started off really dark at first. They have lightened up somewhat but are still large. Having trouble understanding what to do as far as slam method. Numbers are 5=FC 1.5=CC 6.5=TC 37 CYA and a 7.7 according to my PH meter at work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!!

Welcome to TFP.
Is it just staining or is the pool water turning green. 1.5 CC indicates some algae growth but it would be best to do an
Overnight Chlorine Loss Test. Wait till sundown, take a water sample and measure FC and CC. Then wake up before the sun hits the pool and take another pool sample. Measure the FC and CC. If there is more than 1ppm drop in FC over night then it is algae.

Your CYA would be 40ppm as we round up to the next decade mark.

How do you sanitize your pool now? Do you use chlorine pucks? Liquid Chlorine?

Post a photo of your pool and equipment pad.

We have a salt cell. I will post pics tomorrow as I am at work tonight. Pool water is clear as a bell but the stains won't go away. At first the pool store lady thought they might be metal stains so we tried the ascorbic acid. It did take a few little stains off but not these so I got a chlorine puck and set it on top of one of the stains. After about 1 minute I moved it and there was a perfect circle where the puck was and no stain so that's what made me start thinking it was organic.
