Help green pool

hey hey Jive Congratulations!!!

Clorine is low
pH is perfect
CYA is good

reads to me like it is time to get that junk out of the pool, fire up the pump/filter and start the SLAM! Remember this part is Shock Level AND Maintain.. meaning keep that chlorine at/near the target for your CYA to help it do the job of killing all the algae.

Btw, you can update your signature from waiting for test kit to which kit you have! :kim:

Ok I can't figure out how to change my signature

Your numbers look perfect for a SLAM.

Use the pool math calculator in this forum, determine your gallon size, input all current values into calculator,
you are going to want you're FC target to be 16 ppm if you go a little higher to 20 ppm no big deal. Determine how many ounces of 6% bleach, 8 % bleach or 10% bleach to add to you're pool. Pour in over return jet and around pool, and run pump with skimmer sock on skimmer until sock fills up with gunk. Rinse, wash, repeat. Every 12 to 24 hours Check Your FC levels and make sure to maintain them between 16 and 20 until water is clear. Once water is definitely clear you want to perform what is called the overnight chlorine loss test OCLT test. You shouldn't lose more than 1 to 2 ppm in a 24 hr time frame. Any other questions feel free to ask

It's getting better already

If the OTO test shows 5 but the FAS/DPD shows 0.8 that's a little weird. [edit I would expect the yellow to be very pale. I can't tell the difference between 3 and 5 but I can tell the difference between 1 and 5] Also, even with a 25 ml sample the increments for FC/CC are 0.2 so a 0.1 for CC doesn't make sense?

You can trust the FAS/DPD test more for accuracy, especially with a brand new test kit, just noting the oddities.

Moving forward, you can use a 10ml sample and then each drop for the FAS/DPD test is worth 0.5

Yeah use the 10ml test and save reagent, multiply how many drops turn pink clear by 0.5 to get FC ppm. Looking good nice cloudy blue. Give it a few more days, you will be clear in no time. I use the OTO test when I maintain FC levels 5ppm and below after a SLAM since I don't want to use up the FPD-DPT reagent

How is your TA and CH numbers looking?

Jive, you are in SLAM now or I think you are, so testing anything other than FC or CC will likely give some bad readings because of your higher than maintenance level of FC. So, just focus on that for now .. the SLAM parts... once you are out of SLAM then you can manage all other levels to their ranges. But I will say, I had so much fun testing I ran full tests all the time just to get the hang of it.

You are right I feel like a mad scientist here with chemicals. I will cut it out now and just test for FC

No, that is high enough/too high. I think it's the lighting. Can you see the brush head on the bottom better today? Also, it's been 2 days. :) POP = Pool Owner Patience.
