Opened my pool on 5/19. Low to non-existent on everything. So I started the SLAM process. I first got my pH up to acceptable ranges and then I got my CYA up to 30 to start my SLAM. Did the wall brushing. Stayed above SLAM levels and by 5/21 my CC was down to <=0.5. CC has remained consistent at <=0.5 and I'm not losing FC overnight. But it has remained cloudy and won't clear up. So I've stayed in SLAM mode. I did add more CYA to get it up to 60 for my salt generator and I added the necessary salt. I have not started the salt generator yet though. Cleaned the sand by backwashing then cleaned it via waterhose method today. Still cloudy. Sand is about 3 years old but from what I understand, cleaning it via waterhose method means you don't need new sand. Any suggestions on what might be going on?

Well, now that you increased the CYA before completing the SLAM Process, your new required FC level increased from 12 to 24. So it's important to meet and maintain that FC level. Other than that, brush, vacuum as necessary, and backwash when the pressure increases by 25% or so. If you've never done a deep clean, it may be time.

Done all of that. When I added the extra CYA I went ahead and added the extra chlorine needed to keep it in SLAM phase. And I deep cleaned the filter this morning.

Keep an eye on the PSI and don’t backwash unless it goes 25% above the value when clean. Slightly dirty will catch more particulate faster. Other than that it’s just patience. It may take a few days or a week or so to clear up depending on the pool. Keep the filter running 24/7.
