Hello People
I am Jignesh. I live in Monroe Township, NJ. I am a pool owner since like 3 years but new to this forum. Just wanted to introduce myself and say a few things about my journey so far related to learning to maintain my pool.
Safety Cover:
We did not have a safety cover for last. We were using a tarp with water bags. This was a lot of work. But last year we got the safety cover. Spent like $6,000 on it. To me this was a lot of money. We opened our pool just a few days back and saw ton of leaves and gunk while I was expecting to open to a crystal clear pool since that is what we had when we were using a tarp for last 2 years. I am still researching and learning from you wonderful guys what went wrong here on a separate thread that I created
Testing:
I have been using the stripes to test it myself and I also take the water sample to the pool store (At home Recreation on Route 10 in East Brunswick, NJ) So far this has not been a good experience since nothing would make sense. I would find out something and buy whatever chemicals suggested by the store but then I would not see the expected result. Something just has not made sense of the process I am following which is just relying on the pool store and what they suggest. I just bough the Testing Kit and hoping to learn to test the water myself and get guidance from here on balancing the water.
Vacuuming:
I have so far used the suction from my pump from the skimmer. I am really not happy with this. I don't know if I am doing something wrong. But I feel I never have enough suction to do this efficiently. I also bought a cheap (around $150 if I remember it correctly) Vacuum that uses a chargeable battery. But this was even worst. It could barely do what it is supposed to do. I might create a separate thread for this and get suggestions.
Opening/Closing:
After 2 years of struggling and paying someone to so it for me, I think I have learnt enough to do it myself. I struggled a lot and spent good amount of money for everything needed to do it the right way. I have read so much about this. My biggest challenge was to winterize the pipes.....especially the main drain. I had to buy a heavy duty blower which was quite expensive. I now feel did I really need it?
Anyone in Monroe Township, NJ area here? Would love to meet and pick your brain in person. I will sure bring beer.
Regards
Jignesh
