One month ago we moved from the county into the city. This house has a swimming pool. I have never wanted a pool, still don't want a pool but now have a pool (grandkids are happy). I know nothing about baby sitting the pool so have hired a gentleman to take care of it, although we didn't have that expense in our budget. I plan to learn enough from TFP to eventually take over the necessary chores myself. My concern presently is how to discharge water when the pool needs to be lowered. It is a salt system and our property is higher than neighbors which means I could kill their and our grass, plants, etc.

Welcome to TFP. You will want to take ownership sooner rather than later. Rarely does something good come from others managing your pool so I applaud your intentions to become the steward of it.

I lose a lot of water out of my pool due to a lowered end wall for our cover. The point where the water discharges is the greenest part of my lawn. Pool water has a low salt content compared to sea salt water or road salt salt water. I see no worries on that front. Moreso the volume of water sent flowing into their yards potentially but not the chemical makeup.
