I’m looking forward to surfing the forums to learn from its members. My wife and I are parents to a beautiful 8 year old daughter, and a 5 year old foster daughter. It is my goal to one day have a pool for the family to enjoy. We have a beautiful home, and a pool would be a great addition. My wife and I are both self employed, and making the investment is a scary step. I have gotten a quote from a professional builder, and the price tag was $70k. So now I’m considering doing it myself.

We are owners of a business called Coral Fever LLC. We specialize in building Saltwater Reef Aquariums. We have been in business for 10 years now.

Just to fill you in on one project I have under my belt to show why I have some confidence in building my own pool, and I stress “Some”. I was hired by one of my aquarium clients to build a 15,000 gallon gunite koi pond. I took on the project with no real experience, and in the end I’m pleased with the end results. If I were to do it all over again I would have contracted more of the labor. So I did contract a pool company to excavate, lay steal, and shoot gunite. That cost nearly $25k! Anyways, I designed, plumbed, paved, sealed, and did everything else myself.

So that is a brief background of me and my family. Basically now I just plan on really taking my time and doing as much research as possible before I build the courage to take on this huge home project. I look forward to reading all of your experiences, and I will certainly be picking your brains along the way.
