Very nervous and excited to do better with my tiny pool with everyone’s help!

It’s my second year and it was tricky last year with unstabilised floater tabs, 3 in 1 test strips, and gutter run off from summer storms every few weeks.

Dumping every time I messed up became too hard with my disabilities, so I’m really hoping I can keep such a tiny pool somewhat stable once I set it up again!

Thank you very much! I have been absolutely absorbed in the Pool School and wiki over the past few days. Using the advice to come up with my own schedule.

I did wonder tho, in the TFP cartridge advice it’s recommended to soak cartridges in TSP when perspiration, sunscreen, or other oils are present. And then muriatic acid for iron and other minerals.

Last year my main issue was a cloudy pool after one or two uses, by only me. Would my zinc based sunscreen be a contributor? Would following those two pieces of cartridge advice be beneficial?

Additionally, I live in a steel making/mining town. Our dirt, houses, and trees are all red. My backyard in particular is dirt and I struggle keeping the fine dust out from the bottom of my pool. Would testing for the presence of iron/metals, or treating my pool (as well as the cartridge) on the assumption of metal content benefit me at all?

I can of course start proper threads if these answers aren’t as simple as ‘it’ll probably be fine’ or ‘see how you go, look out for X’.

Cleaning Cartridges:

Cloudy pool is not maintaining enough FC for your CYA. Having enough FC will kill the bad stuff that causes cloudy water. Link-->FC/CYA Levels

Don't know what you have available to you, but something like this should work to remove dirt, etc.

I have read that article thank you, I was actually trying to clarify the information from there. As I’m autistic general information can often be confusing. So I apologise ahead of time for asking too many questions! My brain just loves information.

I have one of those pool hose vacuums, but unfortunately the options you linked are more expensive than my pool! I’ve resigned myself to either make a pool cover that will work with my inbuilt pool shade or just accept the silt.

I was more concerned about the iron content from the amount of local pollution. I assumed it was a relatively niche issue and so far I haven’t seen much mentioned except for ‘iron/metal bad, avoid putting in’ rather than it being an unavoidable reality of the local environment.
