Hello everyone,
Just joined the site as I am planning to put an in ground pool in this Summer. I am a bit intimidated as this is a big undertaking but it's always been my dream to have a pool so I finally decided to do it.
A few things to know:
- I have a small backyard so I have to be creative with the space I have. In the process of applying for a variance with the Township for the setback requirements as I can't meet 2 of them.
- My pool builder is Gary from San Juan Pools of Michigan and the pool is the Savannah deep model 14 x 32 (8 ft at the deep end).
- Many of you are very technical with the pumps and all that other information - sorry guys, I am not there yet :( I guess I have a lot to learn!!! In a way, this is exactly why I am joining this site... My pool builder has been great to work with so far but any advice you guys (and ladies!) can provide will be greatly appreciated.
- There is a 3 ft slope in my yard so there will be a small retaining wall.
- Details I have decided so far: exposed aggregate with cantilever deck and UV filtration system (upon recommendation of pool builder).

I will post as I have specific questions but please feel free to offer advice or comments at any point, I will be very grateful ;)

Thank you!

Stephanie

Hello Stephanie and welcome to TFP! You'll find lots of great info here just by using the search feature at the top of the page. Make sure to search "UV" because you'll see lots of expert advise that states it's not really needed for an outdoor pool and doesn't have the sanitation benefits expected. Two things you do want to watch carefully .... 1) Pump horsepower and speed ... 2) Type and size of your filter. Get back with us when you know those. Also spend some time in our Pool School section (link below in my sig) and you'll get a jump on some info I wish I knew before purchasing my pool. :) Nice to have you with us.

Welcome to the forum.

You will find that the brand of pumps and filters is not quite as important as the correct sizing.....we'll help. YTou will also have to decide whether to upfrade to a variable speed pump. They are well liked on this forum so read a lot about them.

I would suggest you not install the UV. Our technical folks here believe UV systems have some value for an indoor pool but are simply a waste of money for an outdoor residential pool.

Glad to have you.....ask lot's of questions.
