Aman,

Please post several pics of your pool's equipment pad.. And a pic or two of the pool itself.

This will allow us to explain how your pool works..

The more you tell us the easier it will be for us to help.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Welcome to TFP! My pump runs 24/7, but that's because I'm in an area with a lot of dust and wind. If you don't have lots of surface debris, you certainly can reduce the rum time. The link below might help. As Jim noted, post some pics of your equipment and we can help more. Don't forget to update your signature.

Here is what you have..

Pic #10 shows your suction side cleaner
Pic #8 shows your "Intake" valve.. This valve selects either your skimmer or your vacuum... It is currently set to both inputs.
Pic #7 shows what I assume is the switch for your pool light. (It could also just be a switch to control the AC power going to the timer..)
Pic #6 shows your filter. The pressure gauge on the top of the filter lets you know when it is dirty.
Pic #4 and #5 show your chlorine tablet feeder. The little knob as the bottom adjusts the amount of water passing through the feeder.
Pic #3 shows your timer. You can set what time your pool pump comes on and goes off.
Pic #2 shows that you have a single speed pump.

Looking at Pic #1 you can see how they all work together.

The pump sucks water through the Intake valve from the skimmer and the suction side cleaner. The pump then sends the water into the filter where all the floating debris are removed. Out of the filter and through the tablet feeder where the water is chlorinated and then sent back to the pool.

I suggest that you read through our Pool School articles and familiarize yourself with how pools work and need to be maintained. Then start asking specific questions.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I think there's an article on cleaning the filter in Pool School, and there are a lot of YouTube videos as well, but the process is pretty straight forward.
1. Turn off the pump
2. Separate the bottom and top halves of the filter case
3. Remove the filter cartridge and spray off all of the debris until it is clean and white (or replace it, if it is in bad shape - broken bands, torn filter material, etc.)
4. Place the cartridge back in the housing and secure the halves together again
5. Turn the pump back on and note the new filter pressure on the gauge.

When the filter pressure increases, perhaps 10-15% or so, that is your indication the filter needs to be cleaned again. For most pools, this is probably around two or three times per year.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet, and it is thoroughly covered in the Pool School articles, but pool care starts with knowing the condition of the water. You will need a good water test kit, and everyone here recommends using Taylor reagents as they're high quality and readily available. The Taylor K-2006 kit is excellent, and the same reagents are also repackaged and used in the TF-100 kit from TFTestKits. There is also a very good mobile app called Pool Math that you can enter the test results into and it will tell you what you need to make sure the water is clean and healthy for your pool. With these tools maintaining your pool is not only easy, it's also a lot less expensive than paying someone to do it for you.

Aman,

The basket in the pump only needs to be cleaned when you can see debris under the clear lid.

I don't get much debris in mine and only clean it a couple of times a year or whenever I clean the filter.

You have a very small filter, so I suggest that you clean it now and then record the filter pressure. As the filter gets dirty, the pressure will go up.. when it increases by 25 to 30% over the clean reading, then you should clean it again.

The real key to pool maintenance is the chemical balance of your water.. Here is a link to what we recommend for a balanced pool. Recommended Levels

Thanks,

Jim R.
