Heavy gauge wire run in tandem with pools lights?

Got everything ready to run my new wire for a new pool lights in both runs for the two pool lights have in tandem this heavy gauge wire it seems like maybe a size 6 stranded? Nothing else is wired to the pool except the lights any ideas? The wires are connected together in the box as well? Is this some kind of grounding? Pics attached

It's probably the bonding jumper that is a supplemental ground from the niche to the junction box.

Where is it connected?

Yeah it looks like they run to the back of each niche I can’t think of anywhere else they would go. I wonder how hard this is going to make pulling new wires.

The wire pull shouldn't be too bad.
